Welcome! I always find the art and backgrounds some of the most eye-catching parts of the show, it will be fun to have someone from that side of the production here.

Thanks for the nice welcome, comments, and questions. Here some brief information about me and the show. I came in early in season one, but was certainly not the style originator. That was Alan Bodner, the first season art director, Chris Bailey, and several first season artists. Many of the standard settings, Like the Possible home, and Buenos Nacho were developed by other artists. Somehow I stuck around into season 2, and by season's 3 and 4, I was the 'lone' bg designer. Of course, without Nadia's brilliant painting, it's only half the creation. Nadia also lasted all 4 seasons, and is a terrific painter. The KP illo on my website is by Alan Bodner, and is just there to show KP as one of my credits. I'll probably remove to avoid confusion. I did work on second season of American Dragon. Steve asked me to help him redesign the bg look for that season, and I worked on it, until the 4th season of KP started up, but even then kept my hand in for some of the later episodes. As far as favorite episodes, I enjoyed many for different reasons. Off the top of my head, I'd say that 'So the Drama' was especially fun, as it was more 'epic', and we were allowed more time than a normal episode. For 'unique' episodes, I loved doing 'Rewriting History', with the turn of the century world's fair, and "Dimension Twist', where we parodied various tv genres. My very favorite episodes haven't aired yet, though, and you all still have alot to look forward to !

Wow, the artist that drew the original taco stand in Middleton. I have no idea why that popped into my head, Andy, but it did, LOL.
I noticed while perusing your work displayed on your website certain stippling and shading that was reminiscent of the work of some artists from the days of the original rip-off press in San Francisco, namely R. Crumb and possibly, from the designs of one of the cars in a pic, the legendary Gilbert Shelton.
If I may ask, who were you influenced by the most in your formative years?
I have to confess, I'm not an artist myself, crayons tend to run away when they see me reaching for them, but I DO have a discerning eye, and I know what I like.
Oh, I created a thread in our ART section for you, too, so it will make it a lot easier for our resident artists to ask tech questions and the like for you.
Thanks for being here, Andy!

He's online right now but he's not listed as a staff member? I thought VIPs were staff members?

Not to panic, Nick. It will be done.
Mr. Ice certainly deserves the status.

Howdy, Andy. I don't think I know you in real life, but I sure know your work! Welcome to our KP home away from home on the wide, wide world of web.

Some of you VIP's don't even know each other? That's not right! It's not uncommon (for animation productions) for staff from the writing department and staff from the art department to have never even met each other.

Thanks, Charlotte. I had a lot of fun working on your 'Nursery Crimes' script.
The writers and artists on KP were seperated by miles-except for some special occasions.

He's online right now but he's not listed as a staff member? I thought VIPs were staff members? This has been taken care of. Only Ron and Serge have the power to grant VIP status and both have been busy as of late. When a VIP joins the board, it sometimes takes a few days for us to get everything square on their account. Rest assured, it will be handled as soon as possible.

Hey Andy, I was going to say this was the first time we met, but I actually think (after seeing your picture) that we may have met at one of the crew lunches over in your building. We all appreciate your hard work - the fans here will treat you well! Welcome aboard!

I have to say you Andy are now my favorite Ice. I have never liked Vanilla Ice, Ice-T is a decent actor, and Ice Cube said some things about Eminem that i took as disrespect. So with that said I look forward to more questions being answered.

Hi Andy, welcome to RS.net. Which background scene was your favorite to do, and why?
How long does it take for you to draw a background scene, and are you typically given some direction on how to go about drawing it, or are you given free reign?

Is there any kind of architecture style you prefer?
I have read here that many of the designs were already created, but you were able to continue the style and quality which is associated with the show.

In the first season, I was given alot of direction from Alan, the art director, as I was working to get the 'vision' that he, Chris, Mark, and Bob had for the show. By season two, I was given much more freedom, though of course Mark, Bob, and Steve, (and I almost forgot-Dave), had final approval. Alan had moved on to other projects, so there was more responsibility to maintain the look and quality of the show. By season's 3 and 4, I was given pretty much a free hand, unless Steve, Mark or Bob, didn't like something, or had a specific idea in mind. I would get the script, and they let me do my thing.
