Hey, I was wondering if anyone has any pet peeves or things that get on their nerves that prevent them from reading fics. For me, I cannot stand lots and lots and lots of drama. I'm fine with some, because sometimes the pain and the angst is enjoyable, but I tend to get irritated when people write fics thare are so horrible dramatic that it rips everyone out of character and is no longer KP. I also hate lots of swearing and sex and that. Yeah, I'm being Molly Mormon, but I hate reading it, and it also tends to take everyone out of character. But, sadly enough, I'm not so picky on grammar and spelling and stuff unless I know you're old enough to get by it. If something is so horribly written, I won't read it. But I figure, kids are kids and you can't expect them to be professional writers and spellers. Besides, I tend to be about the story. Any others? (And sorry if I offended anyone)

I agree with you about the Drama fics. I know a few really brillant, but often I think that the writers just so much wanted to do something completely different, that they forgot why they loved the characters and especially the show.
And about swearing...well...I don't have a problem with it. When I talk to someone I swear so much that some of my friends started to call me Osbourne or Jay (like "Jay & Silent Bob" Jay). In my fanfics there's not much swearing, because I know that the KP characters wouldn't do this. (Except for the one I'm writing right now. It's a crossover with "The Big Lebowski", so there are lots of f-words and at one point in it Shego is getting so annoyed, that she says some bad things, too. But that's all.)
The badly written fics: Yes, they are kids, but...well....when it's not good written, I don't read it. (sorry).
Oh, and I don't like any K/R shipping fics, just because I've never been a K/R shipper, it was always my oppinion that boys and girls CAN be just good friends and I still feel offended about the ending of STD.

Well, I'm a die-hard K/R fan, but that's because I tend to throw people who are close together in romance. Then again, I always thought it would have been cute if Kim and hooked up with Will Du. But it's so true that guys and girls can just be friends. I have some guy friends I love but I would die before dating any of them.

I have trouble reading fanfics where Ron and Kim are constantly pitted against each other. IMO, you lose an important part of KP if you have Kim and Ron constantly pick at each other apart. The series revolves on how they work together to get through everything. This is not saying don't create tension, drama or create new pairings (I have in my stories), I'm just saying I think there are some minimal character traits that should be kept for each character for it to stay inline with the series.
On the 'just-a-friend' comments. I've been on both sides of the fence.

If I don't like the description I don't read them, so I would say my fanfiction pet peeve is misleading descriptions.

Another type of stories I hate is the "I-don't wanna-do-this-anymore-story". I heaven't seen many of them around, but they exist! In these stories the writer loses his interest at one point and ends his story with writing bulls***. His only intention is now just to end the story, doesn't matter what will happen in it. This is just stupid.

On the 'just-a-friend' comments. I've been on both sides of the fence. [glow=red,2,300]Same here. Personally I'm on the fence on the whole K\R thing. If a k\r fanfiction is written well, I enjoy it. If not then I don't finish reading. However I don't really like any other pairings (unless it's been shown on the series already). My pet peeves in fanfiction are constant tense changes (you know saying "he said" to "she says"). I can't stand it. I don't mind spelling\grammatical errors as long as they aren't constant, then it gets on my nerves. I also agree with Piratess. I hate any swearing in the fandom as well as sexual hints and the like, and I agree that it puts the characters way out of characters. I also can't stand slash stories! I hate it when authors portrays Ron as a stupid buffoon who can never do anything right. Sure he may be a bit of a goof-off, but he's not stupid! There's more but I'll come back later! [/glow]

Well.... I can't stand badly written or really cliched fics. If I've read the plot a zillion times before, then I just wont bother. Also, it also kinda bugs me when they start off the main plot right away. I'm like, 'okaaaaaay... where's the exposition?' This happens a lot when people are trying to write K/R fics... It'll start off and Ron'll be like "OMG ANGST I LOVE KP." In my opinion, romance should be mostly sub-plot.

The whole not having an exposition part is what bugs me. I mean whats the point of having a story if you bring the main plot right at the beginning, to me it's like the author wants the story to end right away. My opinion on romance is that it should be implimented into the story, but too much. As for my fic, I started it off nice and slow to give the readers a feel of what it's like in the story. It starts off pretty fluffy, but toward the middle, the fluff and action start to even out then eventually toward the end, the action starts to take over. I also can't stand non-k/r fics. After watching StD, it's not the same if they aren't paired together, it's worse for me when they are paired with other people.

[glow=blue,2,300]I cannot say anything about this matter, it would be hypocritic of me. The only reason I'm in this thread is because I'm bored. Nobody was really posting where I was hanging out so I came here.
But generally, I can't complain. the only thing I have issues with is how well it is written. Grammar and spelling bring it down in my view because I think if your going to post a story you should make it one that can be followed well.[/glow]

*pokes head up* the only thing that REALLY bothers me with fanfiction is if the author hasn't taken the time to check spelling and/or grammar. please, it's such a little thing... but it can affect your story SO much. *ducks back down*

OMG, I have so many... 1. sex/rape... yuck. 2. foul language. 3. slash 4. above T rated. 5. sheer stupidity. 6. Childish stories (I don't mean K or K+.... I just mean pointless memoirs or plotlessly craptacular stories) 7. Death of Ron.... or any villain. They make the show for me. 8. Ppl pretending to be Kim, Ron, Drakken, or Shego; and then they do one of the above. : ppl can be pathetic... 9. Flames. 10. Overly cheerful reviews; I do ask for constructive criticism. I'm too much of a pessimist to think my stories are as good as said... 11. Story's that are completely OOC 12. I love OC, but some just make no sense... like Kim's long-lost twin.... 13. No humor. I think even an angsty story should have one snippet of humor to keep the Kim Possible spirit going. 14. KP and Ron breaking up. 15 shego leaving drakken; specially for Dementor.... 16. Not getting reviews 17. Switching from prose to script 18. People purposly trying to sound smart. I naturally use a variety of words; slang to proper. But thou and shalt have no place in some stories. 19. Fanfics that depict the villains as inhuman; even the series doesn't do that. 20. D/K stories

i hate (and i only use hate becuase there is not a word strong enough for how i feel) when ppl make ron out to be a clutzy idiot, thats why i like classic cowboy's and dougs stories. they are well written and don't make ron out like an oaf. otherwise as long as its readable i am fine with it (well no slash either)

I cannot stand it when someone writes graphical sex, or even sex in general and that includes professional writing as well as fanfics, i don't need the details thank you. The only place I think I have ever let it slide is in MSTings (if you don't know what a MSTing is it's when someone gets the characters in the fanfic to watch the fanfic in the style of a movie and characters comment on it, usually screaming that it isn't true).
I also hate it when a character is written, well, out of character. This can sometimes be in conjuction with the first point I made, some characters just would not have sex at their age, some might not have sex in general, same for loving relationships, not that I don't like it when characters fall in love just for god sake keep the character right or it just comes out unbelievable.

well, there's just plain old sex and then there's romance... me, I try to write somewhere in the middle - 'cause I'm a hopeless romantic. ;D I think the only thing I do object to when seeing rather graphic scenes is that sometimes you KNOW that it's just not physically possible. Even for a Possible.

I have definitely NO problem when one of the maincharacters dies in a fanfic. BUT it must be good ff! Y'know, I always think when I read one of those: "Hey, it's just a fanfic, so what if...", because I know that they are not dead! Nobody ever died in the show, if for example Ron dies in a ff, it's okay, because it's not forever. (Can you follow me?)

If Disney doesn't bring us a fourth season, all we'll have for continuation of the story is what other people write. But since every story is different, if you don't like the storyline, read a different one.

so true - if you don't like it, just don't read it. however, this includes the caveat that the writer should include warnings in the synopsis about character deaths, graphic sex, etc. - just out of respect for the reader!
