I was totally thinking of Howard the Duck when I saw the picture. That was a very weird, corny movie...from George Lucas no less! haha. I mean Alien Ducks could be interesting.

As I've said, I'm currently working on the second season of the "Replacements". I'll let others decide how 'cool' it is, but it is more rewarding than I thought going in. Who did I have the most fun with? With all the people that worked on Kim Possible over the years, there were very few I didn't enjoy working with. Whenever you work with a group of people, you will naturally become closer with some more than others, and I'm fortunate for the friendships that resulted from the show. Probably the group I had the least 'fun' with, were the writers, only because I hardly ever saw them. I miss the day to day enjoyment of working on KP. I miss the excitement of getting a new script, and thinking of new ways to make it interesting and fun. I miss working with the group, though some of us are still together. In animation, that always changes. I've moved on, but will always consider the time on KP to be especially fulfilling and important to me.

Do you have any favorite backgrounds from KP, ones you really enjoyed doing or that came out exceptionally well (like the comic book place in Larry's Birthday, for example)?

Sometimes the backgrounds that I worked hardest on get lost in translation, depending on how the storyboard and overseas handle them. I did a set up for 'Gorilla Fist Strikes" featuring a huge tree of carved monkey heads, that wound up never being shot the way I drew it. Even the comic book shop in Larry's Birthday wasn't really the way I envisioned it, but was close enough. It's no big deal , since my job is to tell the story, and give the board artists something to work with. It's always a treat when what I draw actually makes it into the final version. For that, I'd say 'So the Drama' was the most satisfying, as I loved the various locales, and the final version hardly changed at all.

So you're more of a "create something from scratch" designer who sends his work down the line to be evaluated?
Did you draw Bueno Nacho headquarters?

Did you design Yamanouchi School?

I didn't originally design the Yamanouchi school. That was a second season episode done while we were working on divided crews for awhile, I know of 2 or 3 people who had a hand in that. For all of the subsequent episodes with the school, I designed whatever was new. Interiors, new angles, etc.
I did design Bueno Nacho HQ, as well as all of 'So the Drama" backgrounds.

Andy, I remembered this scene from a Star Trek movie: The wall texture is carpet padding! Do you use any real objects for your background texture ideas?

sometimes, yes. I'm always looking at architecture and design reference, hoping to find some idea that will enhance the background in a meaningful way. Also, there are times when the painter, usually Nadia on KP, adds touches I hadn't thought of.

Were there any backgrounds that you found really hard to do?

I'm not sure how to define 'hard'. I was always trying to do the best I could, and to hopefully bring something new and different to a show, and that's always 'hard' to do. I found drawing endless aisles in Smarty Mart 'tedious', but that's not quite the same as hard.

So there I am... walking down the hallway towards my office (this was like a week ago) and I glance something that catches my eye. Web page on a monitor in someone's cubicle. Ah yes, the familiarity of it registers, but the significance does not. Two more steps and the breaks in my brain screeeeech on. I pause. I walk backwards to get a 2nd glance - the screen looks familiar because it is none other than RS.NET! "Gee," I wonder, "Who's visiting RS.NET here at the Disney?!" And that's when I see it - the name plate on the cube. This RN.NET accessing computer belongs to none other than Mister Andy Ice! I had no idea we were practically neighbors now! That's right... production neighbors with the "Ice Man". How cool is that?! ;D I don't want to brag or anything but... uh... Brag... brag... brag! Since then, we've done the official "hall nod" a few times. (Still working up the courage to ask him if he has any of his Kim work handy for showin' off)!

Brian, we've done the 'hall nod' because I'm usually in the middle of trying to meet some madcap deadline on 'the Replacements.' I'll try to catch a breath and shoot the breeze soon.

LOL! What a cool story! Sounds like something out of my fantasies to meet someone who happens to be an RS.net member. Just wondering, what is a "hall nod"?

A 'hall nod' is what passes for saying hello to acquaintances at work, without actually stopping to talk. It's difficult to describe the pace that is often the norm during the day. It's relaxed and frenetic at the same time. I don't always have the time to stop and chit chat on my way to the copy room, or sometimes I'm just lost in thought with everything I'm trying to get done that day. Of course that's not always the case, and I certainly enjoy kibitzing with co workers whenever I can.
