I'm not too sure about this one, it did give Bonnie some character development so that she wouldn't be just a one demensional bullie on the show. But its still sad to see happen to a character, we've all got sisters that can some times be a bit bossy.

I think it was a good idea, but the pics from the eppie was sad The pics from this epi gave me two distinct plot bunnies in two different story tracts, both having to do with Bonnie's family. The sisters are the way they are because of their parents (as is Bonnie), but no for the reasons that are either G- or PG-rated. It made sense when I discussed the idea with a person who worked with kids like Bonnie on a daily basis for several months. I've opened the Pandora boxes in both my universes, and it feels right (in JadeKim, the story is in Reality Happens, chapter 2, at the end of the chapter). I also have Bonnie finding someone who's been through what she's been through and helped her reedem herself: I like my kindler, gentler, with more than just-a- hint-of-spice Bonnie.

They gave her this character development, then the writers apparently realized they needed her one-dimensional-ness on the show, so they totally ignored that character development for the sake of keeping her one-dimensional.

I think they said something like that they would ignore things for the sake of laughs, so they probably didn't mention it afterwards because they felt they could get more laughs if they ignored that aspect of her personality Ouch, that's harsh. I personally wouldn't call ignoring a very personal character developing moment humorous. However, just as a note. Bonnie was mean before we saw why she acted that way, just because Kim knows why she does it doesn't mean that Bonnie's going to change over night. She's still going through the same crap she has for years, and she's still reacting the same way she has for years. Now, if Kim had made an effort to pursue a friendship (or even a cautious truce) after finding out about Bonnie's home life, I could see some visible changes in her behavior. As it was, Kim didn't change the way she treated Bonnie, she didn't go try to "play nice" and for Bonnie to have made that effort would have been showing signs of "weakness" (which means she wasn't about to do that). I'm not blaming Kim, she is human, and Bonnie has been a grade-A @$$ to her over the years. No one really wants to put any effort into being close to someone that has made your life miserable, whether you find out they have a problem or not.

I think it was a good idea, it shows that somebody like Bonnie, who appears to be popular and dating the jock and has the perfect life, may not in fact be very happy.
Not using this an excuse, but this brings up the whole nature versus nurture argument. People all have their own opinion about this. Some people say its an excuse to blame other people for your actions, what about people that have been brought abusive, studies have shown that extenuating situations that happen early in life can sape the person you become. A person who is brought up in a violent background more often than not, becomes violent, I know from first hand experience. But at the same time I do not blame movies, music etc. It is like what Marilyn Manson said to Michael Moore:
"Who has more power with what they say, the president of the United States or me?"
If people say music influenced them, I say that something was obviously wrong with already to have a song dictate your actions.
So just to clear that up. Yes, shows insight into Bonnies life and what she has to put up with on a daily basis.

depth... Well, I always pictured Bonnie as shallow Until Bonding ;D And even after that...to say nothing of during. Why do people confuse half-hearted writing with character development? That scene in "Bonding" and even the crying jag in "Homecoming Upset" are examples of out-of-character behavior. Bonnie has been so one-dimensionally obnoxious and for so long that seeing her as anything but is nothing more than the writers forgetting who their dealing with. If a little more effort had been put into why Bonnie is the way she is, maybe I'd have expressed some sympathy toward her. But dangling a 'oh, her sisters are mean to her, so, of course, she's mean to others' carrot in front of the gullible masses...give me a freakin' break. It's like someone said a long time ago at TV.com: "Treating people badly at school is one thing; constantly mistreating the one person (or two if you count Ron, which isn't unreasonable) without whom you would be dead or enslaved many times over is quite another."

The scene in "Bonding" with Bonnie's sisters was probably one of the best ideas in the WHOLE series, and I didn't see anything out-of-character there. But dangling a 'oh, her sisters are mean to her, so, of course, she's mean to others' carrot in front of the gullible masses...give me a freakin' break. She was one-dimensional for the most part, but "Bonding" really did a big work on her, explaining her character (EXPLAINING, not justifying) and making her quite human, not just an stereotype. The big mistake for the writters was to ignore all this during the rest of the series (then again, considering their quote of "continuity by accident", what coud we have expected?) and portrayed her at her worst during "Homecoming Upset", and no, I didn't like that episode even though I'm a fan of Bonnie. I prefered her portrayal as an Anti-Hero at "Cap'n'Drakken". "Treating people badly at school is one thing; constantly mistreating the one person (or two if you count Ron, which isn't unreasonable) without whom you would be dead or enslaved many times over is quite another." You can tell that to Barkin, Ron's cousin, Gill, the lady of the library and ANY of the villains that would be dead if Kim hadn't stop another villain. Honestly, do you expect KP's universe to consider such logic? And for the record, Bonnie was having it good when one of the villains actually conquered the world. (ASIT)

I agree with Alexlayer. You say they went off character, I see it as trying to expand on Bonnie, so people can relate, so shes not just the mean girl anymore. The whole thing about KP being the reason she aint dead etc., come on, if you expect that from her you need to expect it from everyone which means they might as well give KP the key to the world, she should be rich, powerful and everyone should be indebted to her. But if they did that it would take away from the original concept of the show, an ordinary girl that does extraordinary feats to save the world.

It would've been a good idea had they actually intended to do something with it. It was a bad idea because they took a character whose ONLY ROLE IN THE SERIES was that of a bitchy, one-dimensional antagonist, gave her some character development, and then snatched it away once they remembered that one-dimensional characters are only supposed to have one dimension.

Like I said, considering the "continuity by accident" thing, how much could we have actually expected? -_- It's good to know that at least this development in canonical, which gives Bonnie much more potential as a character. Of course, the only place it is gonna be explored is around fanfics, but then again, it's because of the Fanon that I'm here. Too bad the writters didn't decide to exploit more of their character's development.
