New fan art from me:The PrisonerI can't get the thought of Monty awakening in jail with a headache after the events of 'Monkey Fist Strikes' out of my head.XD I was not sure if I should draw Monty in a prison garb- or WHAT kind of prison garb for that matter. He's an Englishman of course, and was arrested in England he first time. But I don't know for sure what the ''typical'' British- or UK prison garb looks like. The picture description this time isn't as fleshed out as usual, because it simply isn't much for me to say...I'll leave it to your imagination. Monty and Ron (*NOT meant as slash)*Flowy, loose sketches full of flaws! I like trowing myself into the difficulties of drawing, such as foreshortnings and action angles. With some correction help from others, tips and studies, I know it will give me much knowledge. To win, I must play. I was just randomly playing around with the idea of Ron saving Monty (Monty would never concieve the idea of helping an enemy, and definitely not RON). It's a typical Disney drama climax scene, but it's always powerful, and it never gets too cliché. It's the kind of scene I'd expect MMP to show, for several reasons- especially since I believe they're connected in a way through the power. And I can't imagine Ron would manage to pull Monty up with his own strength. *There was supposed to be a fifth sketch where Monty's on the ground, looking up at Ron in so-called frog's eye view. Sorry, I was too lazy.XD Confrontation (the leader of the bunch)I and Pengychan were talking about how Monty possibly could have got his monkey minions. Pengy suggested they were about to be dissected or something like that, and I agree to believe he ''saved'' them in a ''fair'' way, so that they could get a better life with him, than what they had. Then I came up with the idea of Monty breaking into a cage in a Monkey House in a zoo. We both thought it was a good and believable idea. The story built in my head the whole next day, and the same night I told Pengy the ideas, and she saved them. There are possibilities for an one-shot. It will take place between after 'Monkey Fist Strikes' and before 'Monkey Ninjas in Space', telling the story about how Monty got his FIRST army of monkeys. About the picture, I can see Monty confronting the leader of the bunch(I think the monkeys would react to him in some way!), having to make HIMSELF the rightful ''alpha monkey''. The little monkey would eventually sense that Monty has a strong personality, and is not to be messed with.

I forgot to mention this at the Ultimate Monkey Archive, but I really like the background in that final picture. I think you said way back that you aren't very good with backgrounds or that you don't like doing them (can't remember which), but that certainly isn't the case anymore. Your backgrounds are really alive and work together with the characters so that neither stands out too much while they don't blend into each other either. The perfect mix. In this particular one, I like the use of greyish blue for the walls. How the edge of the glass is a different shade is also a nice detail.

It all looks great! Even the rough sketches - there's something about sketch work that in some ways looks better than a finished product. With sketches I guess you can have your brain 'fill in the blanks' so to speak and imagine details that you might otherwise not think of when looking at a final version...

Another sudden idea for a random comic strip popped up into my head a couple of days ago. Nothing serious- just for fun. I and Pengychan were talking about her fanfic 'Spirit of Snow', and a scene in which Monty gets a cold during a hunt for a piece of an artifact in Himalaya (I'm REALLY burning to illustrate these scenes!!!). Then we started talking about what it could be like if Monty's speech was written in ''cold-speak''. Take the quote: '' I'll be the Ultimate Monkey Master!'', for instance: '' I'll be the Ultibate Modkey MaATCHOO!''. We had much fun with that quote.XD Process workWhen I was done with the sketch and everything was ready to be inked, I noticed I had to edit it a bit. By removing a detail and a whole panel, the spontaneity, humour and overall point with the comic came through much better. In the second panel, the monkey first returns with the scroll (then it gets blown out of the panel), and in the third panel, it scurries out again for something else- medicine and a thermometer (see the last panel). I felt it was an unnecessary add, so I removed the monkey in the second panel and the entire third panel. I love Monty's expression in the third panel to bits, but when you're making a story, the point must be clear and not too heavy. It hurts, but sometimes, you have to ''kill your darlings'', as they say. *Not the best colour-wise quality artwork I've ever made, but I hope it's not too bad. And...I had so much trouble resizing the comic, with the three pics put together- the size of the comic turned out too small. So the best I could do was to put each single picture under each other.

I just KNEW I had forgotten to mention someting in the comment on the LJ XD I absolutely love the title you chose for the comic - now I'll never be able to listen Monty say "Monkey Master" without thinking "Wonky Master" and start laughing my head off XD

It must be a very impressive sight, even for the alpha-monkey! So, now the next problems dissappear: how can I post pics here?! Sorry for being always so dumb

Hiya, Claudia! We really wanted you here on the RS. message board. I'm glad you finally managed to figure out how the system works. Welcome! Thanks so muchly for all your nice comments on my work- they mean more than just ''nice'' though. '' Confrontation'' is on of my personal favourite pictures, besides, I like the idea behind it. I'll comment you back on YOUR work soon. How to post pictures:*You know how to make a new post in a thread, right (the reply-button on the bottom and on the top of the page)? *To post pictures, you must have a Photobucket account, like how you upload pictures on LiveJournal. photobucket.com/*Eventually, you can resize your pictures in photobucket to make them fit the screen. Click the IMG Code box under your chosen picture at photobucket, then copy and paste the code into your post here on the message board. *If you need more help, please read this about Picture Uploading Help:ronstoppable.proboards89.com/index.cgi?board=polls&action=display&thread=10927&page=1I hope this is understandable. I've posted longer comments to SpicyWeasel and blackwolf' art in The Ultimate Monkey Archive, but I just have to repeat how awesome they are. We're really lucky to have such brilliant artists among Monkey Fist fans. It almost feels like a crime to post my art after the maestros, but here we go. LilyHellsing asked me if I'd draw something based on her fanfiction, so I did. This is from the first chapter of her fanfic, Monkey Love: The Beginning in which Monty takes in a thirteen-year-old Egyptian girl after she tries to steal from him. That's all I'm going to say about the plot; you must read the story yourself. In this scene, Monty had just discoverd two jade stones when Nukpana, a young Egyptian thief, steals them. He chases her and ends up fighting and capturing her. I'm not really good at drawing other people's OCs, and Nukpana was even harder than usual because she's supposed to have monkey-like hair on her arms and legs. I tried different ways to achieve that effect, but most of them made her look too unattractive, so I settled for what you're seeing now. Hope Lily likes this.

Lily is most definitely going to love this! XD Comparing this with the other drawings of him you did as "Monty Fiske", I'm amazed by the improvement: it is really impressive. I like both the poses and expressions a lot - nobody steals from a thief XD I also like how you drew Nukpana a lot, she's just like I've always pictured her. Her furious expression and clenched teeth are just perfect for the moment.

Thanks. It's good to know that I'm getting better because I've always found him insanely difficult to draw as Monty Fiske. There's something about his face and jawline that makes it hard for me to get right.

I like it, too! I didn`t read the story yet, but of course I´m going to! OCs are always difficult to draw, you`re right. But I think it`s also fun! And you did really good, because you solved the problem with the hairy legs and arms very well. Monty looks great, too!

Comment on vampirenaomi's illustration:
Of all the moments in 'Monkey Love', this scene is one of those I remember and liked the most. You really nailed Nukpana's chacteristics here- she looks wild, untamed, and at the same time, you see she's a human girl, looking INTERESTING and NOT gross. The way you drew her long black hair adds to the aggressive mood she is in- besides, it's harmonic and has much verve to it, giving an artistically decorative touch. Her hands look ready to swipe and scratch, but Monty is holding them in a strong grip. Also- I really like the grainy, yellow background. Clean, lovely sand effect! It reminds me that I have to find a pleasant technique to use for sand effect in a couple of the illustrations I'm working on. What program do you use to draw and colour again?
I have to agree with you on ''Monty Fiske'' being hard to draw- harder than Monty as ''Monkey Fist''. I can't quite put my finger on the exact reason, but from experience, Fiske's lines and overall design feels more strict, straight and gives me less freedom and flexibility. If I happen do do a pose goof- it will hit me as quite prominent with a big red 'W' for WRONG. I can't hide it, because my current style of drawing does not go very well with Fiske's graceful, flawless poses. In short- drawing Monty as ''Fiske'' is more brain strain. ''Fiske'' has human anatomy (humans are hard for me to draw)- ''Monkey Fist'' is more er...''rubbery'', curved and part monkey.
